Author, journalist and communications consultant with a special interest in heritage, food and sustainability.
My book The Green and The Grey: Irish Emigration to England Explored Through Buildings, published by Liverpool University Press, is now available.
My work portfolio includes creating influential content for The Times newspaper’s website, co-editing the UK’s oldest business magazine and writing on the subject of heritage for The Birmingham Dispatch, Birmingham Post & Mail and Accessible Magazine. I also work part time in communications, and in previous roles I delivered national and regional media and campaign strategies for the heritage body Historic England and wildlife charity RSPB.
Career highlights range from launching the inaugural features section of the men’s lifestyle publication ARTICLE, writing a Sunday Times Homes & Property column and establishing a media services business in Amsterdam.
Specialist areas
Social issues related to women, including relationships, friendships, work psychology and education. In my previous role as an online editor for The Times newspaper I regularly contributed comment pieces to the blogs Alpha Mummy and School Gate. I now continue to write about these issues in my own blog and for magazines including Professional Manager. During a previous period of freelancing I wrote extensively for Regeneration & Renewal magazine and at The Times I contributed to the Green Central blog. Through volunteering for eco projects while on my travels and now my involvement with the Transition Towns organisation I have continued that interest in sustainability and the environment. I write about food sustainability in particular for The Grocer magazine.
