After working as books editor and feature writer at the Eastern Daily Press for 12 years I am leaving to go freelance. In 2007 I was named Feature Writer of the Year at the national Regional Press Awards and in 2010 I was highly commended for my literary journalism in the Specialist Writer category. I also won the feature writing category at the East of England Media awards in 2010.
I have also helped to run the EDP-Jarrold East Anglian Book Awards, which celebrate the best new writing from East Anglia, and will continue to do so on a freelance basis.
I plan to combine freelance journalism with establishing myself as an author. I have two books due for publication this year: in June, the first English translation of the medieval Hebrew poems of Meir of Norwich (which I have edited and introduced -- I am not the translator), and in November, The Bumper Book of Dinosaurs, an up-to-date and accessible guide to the most amazing animals to have walked the earth.
I am also working on a biography of a mysterious and extraordinary character named David Litvinoff who straddled the worlds of art, crime and rock music in 1960s London. This is to be published by Jonathan Cape in 2016, while my dinosaurs book will be published by fellow Random House imprint Square Peg.
I think the books I'm working on show the breadth of my interests, and I would welcome commissions relating to these subjects and more besides.
