I am an experienced senior writer and editor that has been regularly contributing to publications such as The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, Art Forum, Tatler, Art Basel Magazine as well as spending nearly two years as a staff writer on the South China Morning Post culture and fashion desk and over a year as Art and Nightlife Editor for Time Out Hong Kong. I also have a lot of online editing experience - managing CMS's and creating search optimised headlines as well as adding deks and links to generate more clicks.
I am now based in London after four years in Hong Kong. Throughout my time in Asia I was fortunate to have the opportunity to contribute to some of the worlds leading publications and develop global connections. At this stage in my career I have a wide range of experience in commissioning, conducting and completing both long-form features and Q&A's as well as critical review-based articles for international newspapers and magazines.
Within my most recent role as a staff writer at the culture desk of the South China Morning Post I garnered experience working within a high-pressured and deadline-focussed national newsroom where I managed my daily roles creating short-form pieces with a multitude of higher-profile long-form articles such as my interviews with Roberta Armani and Alexander Wang and for the daily paper; as well as a six page cover feature on photography for Money Magazine and a three page cover feature for The Review.
In terms of other experience - my time as Art and Nightlife Editor at Time Out Hong Kong allowed me the chance to immerse myself into the cultural landscape of a new city by affording me the opportunity to interview, review and write on some of the city and world's leading designers, DJ's and artists as well as writing feature pieces investigating the environment for fashion, art and nightlife in Asia. Within my role as Managing Editor of INSIDE-journal I was responsible for coordinating a small team of writers, freelancers and designers to create daily, online content geared towards the readership of over 10,000 high-net-worth-individuals. I also had to liaise with the Managing Director of the company to ensure that all content was delivered in the most concise, comprehensive and relevant manner.
Throughout my freelance career I have contributed to publications such as The Guardian - writing on the gallery scene in Hong Kong, The Wall Street Journal - interviewing significant personalities in the world of design and art (Michael Young, Rashid Rana, Ben Brown, Gilbert and George) and Tatler Asia - interviewing international celebrities such as Russell Simmons as well as recently writing an in-depth four page humour feature on ArtHK12.
I am enthusiastic and energised about finding a challenging and dynamic, long-term role within a high-achieving and fast-paced editorial team that utilises my experience and insatiable interest in culture, fashion, art and design. I also have an MA in Art History and a BA in English Lit and Art History.
Specialist areas
I have been writing about culture and art for the greatest part of my journalistic career. Being placed at the culture desk of a major national newspaper meant that while my area of expertise was directed towards the arts I have been regularly writing on topics such as music, design, architecture, beauty, fashion, food and lifestyle. All of which I enjoy and am comfortable approaching in a conmprehensive and informed manner.
