Ex teacher (Design & Technology) with experience in conventional schools and special units, including a remand home in west London. Ex Support Manager for TechSoft UK Ltd, a software company supplying CAD/CAM software and CAM hardware to education and light industry.
Started freelancing many years ago whilst teaching. Didn't do much freelance whilst at TechSoft though I did write their product blurbs, user guides, advertising copy, advertorials in trade mags and text for the website. Left Techsoft Dec 2005. Freelancing since Jan 2006.
Specialist areas
Making technology comprehensible. For example even many people in IT think Linux is hard. I did a weekly feature in Micro Mart and a monthly one in PC Utilities aimed at new users. The MM one ran for over 6 years and the PC-U for 4. For Biofuels International I have written about new methods of ethanol production, various types of biodiesel production and the arcane art of blending fuels. For Tank Storage magazine, examined various automation options, including a recent piece on wireless methods. I have always done my own decorating and home repairs, recently I've been writing about it too, two books for GMC (Wiring and Plumbing) and several articles for DIY and SelfBuild magazines. For the last few years I have been 'ghost blogging' for a major IT company and writing technical features for Diesel Car magazine.
