A second generation gardener, I started in working in horticulture shortly after learning to walk. I worked in the amenity and commercial sectors before undertaking my professional training. After training at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew I taught horticulture in further education colleges.
During the period from 1993 to 2005 I co presented the Green Welly Programme, a two-hour live gardening programme on BBC Radio Northampton. From 2006 to the current date I have contributed on an ad hoc basis into programmes for BBC regional radio covering the eastern counties.
I was a 'gardening expert' for Garden Answers' magazine, responding to reader enquiries.
I have submitted work for Hortus, the Garden Design Journal as well as being main contributor to an on line magazine at www.therake.co.uk.
My first book, 'An Encyclopaedia of Plants in Myth Legend Magic and Lore' was published by Robert Hale Nov 2012
