A California native, left west coast for New York in summer, 2001. Since then have worked in two full-time positions, as US Correspondent for London-based Incisive Media's Dealing With Technology and as editor for BioInform, a Genomeweb publication.

Between 2005-2009 wrote 15 stories for Institute of Engineering & Technology, first for IEE Review and later for Engineering & Technology, the updated, biweekly version of the flagship publication. The magazine is published in Stevenage and reaches an international readership of several thousand. From 2008-2009 I wrote for tce Today/the Chemical Engineer, out of Rugby, UK, covering a similar range of subjects including e-waste, energy and climate change.

Have also covered occasional business or music features for publications such as Prague Post, Boston's Commercial Record, New York-based Habitat, Cambridge-based Bio IT-World and eHow. Over the course of 20 years I've also written for Scientific American.com, Entrepreneur, AARP, Time Out New York, SF Weekly, San Francisco Focus, Victorian Homes, Toque, Cape Cod Life, Yankee, Woman, El Observador, the Gazette (Marietta, Ga) and other publications.

Hold Bachelor of Arts degree in English from San Francisco State University, augmented by journalism coursework including at UC Berkeley. In 2009 was accepted to 18th century studies MA program at King's College London, but did not attend. Was readmitted for 2014 but deferred for Sept. 2015 entry.

Specialist areas

Engineering/chemical engineering, environmental, energy and miscellaneous science features published as well as articles on range of business, technical and feature topics in both US and UK publications including Slate, Scientific American, E&T and tce today in the UK, MIT Technology Review and other publications. Currently write New Orleans environmental and wildlife/marine life columns, focusing on the effects of the BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill, while also covering tangential news as it affects local hotel/tourism industry. Other articles, such as for IET's Engineering & Technology, have included look at green investing in Manhattan, NYC's first green hotel, repowering New Orleans after Katrina, US auto emissions policy, and rebuilding of Minneapolis bridge. Recent articles published were profiles of 2009 TED award-winner Dr. Sylvia Earle, "awesome aquanaut" who, in her 70s, is still diving and helping preserve world's blue "hope" spots; Centerbrook Architecture's Jim Coan, a sustainability leader in Connecticut; political posturing by candidates on energy policy during presidential campaign; and, for Slate, an analysis as to why so-called animal "friendships" exist in both nature and captivity. Several years' editorial experience including work at Charles Schwab & Co., a financial newsletter and genomics publication in Manhattan; and two Southern California trade magazines. Also worked on three books published by Heritage Media: Los Angeles: Place of Possibilities; Pomona: the Citrus Empire; and Long Beach: the City and Its People. Always looking for more assignments, especially in environmental/alternative energy, green travel/hospitality, engineering and pharmaceutical/drug discovery sectors. Also very interested in covering astronomy, geology, and many other scientific subjects.
