I began my days in journalism working for a trade and technical title in the electronics industry having qualified with a BTEC in Electronics and Electrical Engineering. Initially I produced product stories but progressed onto features and company profiles.
My engineering background became useful as I moved onto manufacturing and materials handling magazines covering news and features on all aspects of these businesses. I took over as editor of a major manufacturing title then one of the leading materials handling magazines.
After an opportunity arose to work in the automotive magazine market I took over the editorship of a high profile fleet management publication but after four years at the helm the title was sold to a competitor and closed down.
I have been working as a freelancer since being made redundant and have produced a number of articles for trade and technical magazines as well as lifestyle features.
Specialist areas
My main areas of specialization are electronics, manufacturing, materials handling and motoring (cars and bikes). Although my background is technical and I am capable of writing about technological issues I also have a solid grounding in many other areas. I am a semi-professional photographer and capable of producing high quality images to accompany articles if required. Other areas covered: photography, sport (non-mainstream such as hockey, cycling, equestrianism, etc), company profiles, lifestyle, news features.
