I am a freelance technology journalist available for reviews, features, how to guides, help and tips features and any other writing including case studies and white papers. I am also interested in freelance editing.
I have over 18 years of experience in computer journalism. I can cover anything from strongly technical stories and science to home entertainment and mobile phones, and my focus is on taking a technology story and making it interesting and easy to understand.
I currently write regular features, reviews and analysis pieces for IT Pro, FT Digital Business, The Times, Tom's Hardware, Server Management, PC Plus, Tech.co.uk and many other titles. In recent years I have written for PC Answers, The Official Windows XP Magazine, the Guardian, PC Advisor , Developer Register, Application Development Advisor, Mobile Business, ESM, ZDNet, The Official Internet Explorer 6 Magazine, Amazon UK, Internet Advisor, PC Magazine, The Official Office XP Magazine, The Official Windows Millennium Magazine, The Official Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 Guide, PC Advisor, PC Network Advisor, PC Support Advisor, .net magazine, PC Format, Mac Format, Communicate, Mac Publishing, the PC Plus Software Guide, CD-ROM Today and On-line World.
For five years I was the Senior Editor on AOL's Computing & Technology channel for the UK, so I have plenty of experience writing for the mass market and covering science, technology and home entertainment stories as well as mainstream computing. Before that I worked as Features Editor on PC Plus magazine, as well as other titles at Future. I was on the launch team for PC Answers. I was the (freelance) News Editor of Program Now from 1989 to 1990 and in 1990 I contributed a weekly column to New Computer Express.
I've written technical white papers and newsletters for various IT companies. My technical writing experience includes producing documentation and on-line help for a group conferencing software package as well as writing and arranging the printing and production of manuals and publicity materials for a network monitoring package.
I have also contributed columns about food and cooking to the About Food website and written craft articles. I contributed book reviews and interviews for SFX magazine for the first year of publication and I was invited to write the program notes for the Newcastle Playhouse production of The Wasp Factory.
