Dr Helen Wall is a dedicated and accomplished medical professional with a rich background in healthcare and public health. Born and raised in Bolton and trained in Newcastle, Dr Helen became a GP Partner in Bolton over 12 years ago.
Her commitment to the medical field extends beyond her role as a GP Partner, as she has contributed significantly to different aspects of healthcare in the region. Dr Helen's diverse professional roles include serving on the staff grade on-call rota at Bolton hospice, participating in the out-of-hours service for a decade and contributing to Bolton CCG as the Clinical lead for women's and children's services, board member and later the Director of Commissioned Services. Dr Helen was an active trustee board member of Bolton Hospice and has also completed Advanced Menopause training with the British Menopause Society earlier this year.
Her involvement in medical education is evident through her role as a trainer for Bolton GPs, teaching, mentoring and examining medical students from Manchester University. She has been an active contributor to the women in leadership program and has provided talks and work experience placements for students aspiring to pursue medicine. As the COVID pandemic emerged, Dr Helen demonstrated strong leadership qualities as the Clinical Director of Commissioning for Bolton CCG and led the COVID response for Bolton.
Following the disbandment of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in July 2022, Dr Helen continued her public health work, earning recognition for her contributions with an Honorary Doctorate for services to Public Health from the University of Bolton in 2022 and a visiting Professor title in 2023. She assumed a public health role in Greater Manchester, leading the population health team and focusing on all-age immunisations and screening for all national health programs.
Her passion for advocating for patients and utilising effective communication skills is evident not only in her medical practice but also as a freelance Media GP, where she enjoys time as a resident GP for BBC Breakfast, occasional GP on BBC morning live and writes a weekly GP column to Woman magazine as well as other Tv, radio and press projects.
Outside of medicine Dr Helen is a wife and mum of 3 children and loves the great outdoors, gardening and weight training! In January 2024, tired of the vilification of GPs she set up an Instagram page sharing behind the scenes honesty and is known by her followers for her authenticity (@doctorhelenwall).
